Bayer Schering Pharma (BSP) presents initial findings from TALENT at the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) congress 2010

BSP’s successful programme of activities at ESH 2010 were focused on the rollout of the initial findings of TALENT (A Multicentre STudy EvALuating the Efficacy of Nifedipine GITS – Telmisartan Combination in BP Control and Beyond: comparison of two strategies). Kicking off events on Saturday 19th June was an exciting ‘Hotline’ presentation on TALENT by one of the principal investigators Professor Luis Ruilope (Spain) demonstrating that initiating antihypertensive treatment with the combination of Adalat® (nifedipine GastroIntestinal Therapeutic System) and Pritor®/Kinzal® (telmisartan) in patients at high cardiovascular risk allowed optimal blood pressure control to be achieved earlier compared with starting with add-on therapy.

Pritor®/Kinzalmono® receives new indication in broad spectrum CVD prevention

The European Commission has approved the label extension of Pritor®/Kinzalmono® (telmisartan). The new indication in cardiovascular prevention includes the reduction of cardiovascular morbidity in patients:

  • with manifest atherothrombotic cardiovascular disease (history of coronary heart disease, stroke, or peripheral arterial disease) or
  • type 2 diabetes mellitus with documented target organ damage.

    September, 2009: Pritor®/Kinzal® at the ESC 2009 in Barcelona, Spain

    This year’s European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress, Aug 29 – Sep 2, Barcelona was yet again the world’s largest meeting in cardiovascular medicine, with over 30,000 attendees.

    This renowned international meeting provided an opportunity for Bayer Schering Pharma (BSP) to showcase its impressive portfolio for the management of CVD and highlight the clinical benefits of Adalat® and Pritor®/Kinzal® in the management of hypertension and CVD.

    Over the course of the congress, BSP sponsored an interactive product exhibition booth, where guest speakers gave mini-presentations and encouraged debates on ongoing questions around the optimal management of hypertension, which generated significant interest. BSP also sponsored a Satellite Symposium, “What more can we achieve beyond mono and combination therapy for hypertension management?” attended by nearly 400 delegates.

    June, 2009: Pritor®/Kinzal® at the 19th European Meeting on Hypertension, Milan

    With a capacity seated and standing audience of nearly 500 delegates, this year's Bayer Schering Pharma (BSP) programme at 19th European Meeting on Hypertension, Milan, was a huge success. The Topical Workshop – Effective blood pressure lowering reduces cardiovascular risk – was part of the main congress programme and combined educational support for the use of both Pritor®/Kinzal® and Adalat. Chaired by Professors Athanasios Manolis (Greece) and Antonio Coca (Spain) the programme examined the need to manage difficult-to-treat hypertensive patients with appropriate, aggressive and early intervention. In addition, Prof. Paolo Verdecchia (Italy) presented preliminary data from the pre-specified LVH (left ventricular hypertrophy) analysis of the ONTARGET®-TRANSCEND® trials in the late breaking news session.

    (Oct, 2008) The 3rd Annual Pritor®/Kinzal® Stand Alone Symposium, recently took place in Athens, Greece, on 25 October 2008. Its purpose was to demonstrate and discuss the most recent evidence and clinical opinions concerning the successful outcomes of the ONTARGET® Trial Program. Cardiovascular disease is still the number one cause of death in first world countries and is predicted to become the leading cause of death in the developing world in the near future. Therefore, the prevention of health deterioration from cardiovascular events is a common treatment goal around the globe.
